The teaching of American History should, nay MUST include the broad array of GOOD that we have achieved, rather than concentrate on the relatively few areas in which we have fallen short. Yes, relate our shortcomings as examples of how we can improve ourselves, but do not leave the student with the false conception that all we have done is wrong. Be fair and balanced, rather than knowingly negatively biased! Promulgating such a bias is both inaccurate and politically motivated. It has NO place in our educational system.

The bulk of ANY exam on American history should be The Constitution, and why it is so important. This, of course, should include thorough study of the Founders of this country, and what their reasons were for writing this document, and the Declaration of Independence, and why freedom is such a precious thing that MUST be protected.

Teaching 'critical thinking' is one thing... but that means being able to debate - with facts - MULTIPLE sides of an issue or historical event, not just one, 'Hate America" point-of-view. Liberals AND Conservatives must realize that biased education can cut either way, depending on whose hand is on the switch. Congress must act to stop this trend and remove the ability of a few DC bureaucrats to 'flip the switch' based on their own political bias.
