After following all the shenanigans in Washington over this subject Ive come to the following observations and recommendations:  Republicans may be blamed initially for the government shutdown, but as it lasts, like sequestration, it will do little harm and serve to prove that we can and must reduce government deficit spending without raising taxes.  The GOP should put forth legislation agreeing to a continuing resolution to fund the government for six months through March 2014 at sequestration levels combined with a debt ceiling increase equal to the projected deficit incurred during that period.  That legislation should also establish a committee comprised of two each democratic and republican senators and house members and two members of the administration who are expert in budgets, taxes and entitlement reform. This committee of ten will be charged with meeting at least weekly to hammer out a recommended budget, tax and entitlement reforms, and a corresponding new debt limit, and meet with the senate and house leaders and the president monthly.  If no budget or reforms are agreed to by all leaders and passed into law by March 31, 2014, the debt ceiling will not be further raised. The key is to force representatives and leaders of the Senat, House and White House to meet together.REPORT COMMENTS
