I feel sad that people could use even a note of cultural expression to relay a cultural/religious injustice such as the fallacies about the Jews told in this opera. In an era when we have lost access to many musical and cultural programs in schools and we're working hard to teach our children the value of classical musical expression -- and when we're fighting to keep it alive in our own adult lives as well - the fact that a story like this is going to be performed on one of the most world-renowned stages, educating people young and old by virtue of performing to them, is shameful. Mr. Peter Gelb, you are doing a disservice to your art and to people of every culture, every religion and every age group out there at a time of strong tension and true pivotal transcendence. Not everything is worth staging, especially if the damage outweighs the notoriety brought forth by a composer's reputation. Please reconsider because of the damage you will be causing to so, so many and also because it is the right thing to do. Otherwise you are putting yourself on a pedestal above others and I wonder why you think you have the right to?REPORT COMMENTS
