Who's to say the Democrats didn't pad the election to get the advantage and give Hillary popular vote. Leave well enough alone. Keep the electoral college.Nov 11th, 2016Rebecca M. from Middletown, CT signed.

Think of the Electoral College like the World Series. One person-one vote equates to the World Series Champions being determined by total number of runs scored. If the Dodgers win the first game 10-0, and the Yankees win the next four games 1-0, the Dodgers win the series. Even though the Yankees bested the Dodgers in four games, it doesn’t matter because the Dodgers scored 10 runs to their 4. One anomalous game decides the whole series. Without the Electoral College, a few heavily populated states decide the whole election.REPORT COMMENTS

This is absurd! The elctoral college is in place to represent the small states so that they have a voice as well. Without it, new yorl city and losangeles will determine the winner everytime with no regard to the rest of the country.REPORT COMMENTS

They cannot do so, because it would take a Constitutional Amendment - the Electoral College is in the Constitution. The electors are bound to the candidate that won the popular vote within their state. The Electors pledge and often, as in Oregon, sign an affidavit stipulating they will vote for the candidate with the popular vote. Additionally some states have a fine and jail time for violation of their promise. I am an Oregon elector - I do not have the priviledge of voting because the Republican nominee did not win. The only way to have the states that won the popular vote for President Elect Trump is to convince those Republican Delegates to change their vote to Hillary. Hardly a chance that will happen.REPORT COMMENTS

Why is Electoral College better than relying on the popular vote that represents the desires of the majority of voters? EC is certainly less honestly representative and less democratic. Fighting to preserve the oligarchy? Just wondering.REPORT COMMENTS
